From: Mike Mycek To: All Thread: modem problem (1/7) Date: 19-Jun-97, 1:11pm (Ref# 5430) GREETINGS....from the Night Owl! i have just connected to this echo, so forgive me if this problem has been discussed. i am running frontdoor to renegade and im using an external 33.6 with a rockwell chipset. i installed bgfax exactly the way the docs indicate. the problem im having is that frontdoor will answer an incoming fax call...but it will not connect and pass the fax call to the batch file to receive it.... then, when the call disconnects...the modem will only handshake as a fax modem and will not allow bbs calls to connect.... bgfax works great from the command line to send faxes...but i cant seem to get front door to act correctly.... any thoughts....? thanks in advance --- GEcho 1.00 * Origin: The Night Owl BBS in Central Florida (1:3618/17)

What kind of modem you do have? What did you see as the fax connection result code in FDSETUP? Regards, bgfax author

Setting up exactly as prescribed by the docs does not always work. My system is supposed to work as FCLASS=2.0, but will only work if it's FCLASS=2. Why don't you try posting your EXEBBS.BAT file (or whatever name you call it) and let's go from there. I had so much trouble setting mine up that I'm almost certain I came across every possible problem. Make sure your fax connection result is either "FAX" or "+FCON". I'm not sure which one this "Newcom" modem uses. Be sure that you do NOT have the word "CONNECT" in front of the fax string. That is a very common problem. Regards, bgfax author

Uh... There probably is as a fax program will see it. Try this: Load up your favourite comm program. In your terminal screen, manually init the modem with the same 3 init's by typing them in EXACTLY to put the modem in adaptive answer mode. Get someone to send you a fax. Note EXACTLY the response from the modem. You should first see the RING then either FAX, or +FCO or whatever it sends. It's this second respones you stuff into FD under CONNECT messages under FAX. You may indeed have a modem that sends something different. FD will see this fax connect message and exit with the errorlevel for the calling batch to trap and call BGFAX.
