From: Charles Chambers To: Gail Hitson Thread: Email to Fax? (1/1) Date: 15-Jul-97, 11:20pm (Ref# 5514) GH> Does PBFAX allow your BBS users to send out faxes from your system via an GH> email/netmail/echomail base? In other words, you can provide Fax GH> services to your BBS users? No and yes. No, the message base is not used, but PBFAX does make use of a temporary file called MSGTMP. This temporary file is also used by ICE-EDIT. Yes, I can (and have) provided *local* fax service to my users for about two years. Quoted from the docs for PBFAX (quotes are indented, comments are not): 1) User enters who the fax is addressed to, a subject, and who the fax is from. User is in the door at this stage, but ICE-EDIT has not been invoked. The door is simulating the BBS look and feel. 2) PB/FAX calls the editor defined in procfg. (Tested with ICE-EDIT and GEDIT) Currently running ICE-EDIT. Works no problem. 3) Creates a file called faxit.bat in the startup directory. This file will call ZFax to convert the fax and will then call BGFax to send the file. The EXEBBS.BAT contains a line that tests for the existence of FAXIT.BAT and, if it exists, calls it. FAXIT.BAT runs, exits, and processing is passed back to EXEBBS.BAT, which reinvokes FrontDoor. The line reads something like: IF EXIST E:\PB\NODE%NODE%\FAXIT.BAT CALL E:\PB\NODE%NODE%\FAXIT.BAT I run OS/2 3.0 on a 486sx25 with 16 megs memory, with (sometimes) 5 tasks running. Memory utilization and speed are not problems. However, PBFAX *requires* ProBoard be the BBS software. Hope this helps.
