I gave up on trying to get my USR Courier internal to work, so I sold it
today. I replaced it with an Acer (Rockwell based) 33.6 modem which is
supposed to be able to upgrade to K56 Flex. When I typed the command you list
above, I got the following: 0,1,1.0,80

Strange, huh? Anyways, I got to study the book, and find the proper init
strings for FrontDoor 2.12, and for BGFAX. I found right away it does NOT like
the ones I was using for the USR modem. I will try this Acer modem for a few
weeks, and will upgrade it to the K56 Flex. If you need a tester, you have my
address so I will be glad to experiment with you. Right now when I get a call
coming in, it answers with "DATA", so FrontDoor is not sure _what_ to do with
that (grin).

You can try loading the ATOTSR.COM file that comes with BGFAX into your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  The ATOTSR.COM must be loaded _AFTER_ the FOSSIL
driver is loaded.  After you make the change to AUTOEXEC.BAT, reboot your
system, and then see if the "DATA" problem goes away.
 
The ATOTSR.COM file "hooks into" the FOSSIL driver, and will monitor the
port for the "DATA" keyword.  When it is encountered, the TSR will pause
for a second, and then stuff the FOSSIL output buffer with "ATO"<CR> which 
should "wake up" the modem.
